Team St. Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the multiple winners in the New York Caribbean Cup Soccer Tournament and in fact joins Team Jamaica USA and Team Grenada USA as the only winners of the tournament in consecutive years. In the early years of the tournament Vincy was the team to beat year after year, while winning the championships consecutively in 1993, 1994 and 1995. The team was the beaten finalist in 2014 but seemed to have run into uncontrollable problems in 2015 that saw unusual on the field performances.

2016 is the 25th anniversary of the tournament and like all the other teams Team St. Vincent and the Grenadines USA are hoping to be crowned champions in this landmark year.

Alittle about the Country:

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is an island country in the Lesser Antilles. The islands making up the group of St. Vincent and the Grenadines measures approximately 150 square miles in area with its capital, Kingstown. There are 32 islands in the chain with only 9 occupied.

The island now known as Saint Vincent was originally named Youloumain by the native Caribs who aggressively prevented European settlement until 1719.

St. Vincent has had its share of natural disasters over the years. In 1902, La Soufriere volcano erupted, killing 2,000 people and damaged much of the farm lands. In 1979, La Soufriere erupted again, and although no lives were lost there was a lot of damage to farm lands.

Like so many Caribbean islands it is a hot spot for tourists and the filming of “Pirates of the Caribbean” has only served to enhance this.

Cricket and soccer are the most popular sports played on the islands. Perhaps their most notable sports person is Ezra Hendrickson, a former national captain for their soccer team, and who played Major League Soccer for several clubs in the United States.
