Team Jamaica USA is the most successful team in the New York Caribbean Cup Soccer Tournament winning the coveted cup multiple times.
Alittle about our Country:
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean covering 4,244 square miles. Along with Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico form part of the Greater Antilles.
Once a Spanish possession known as Santiago the British renamed it Jamaica when they took charge of the island in 1655. Like many of the other islands in the Caribbean the island was most populated by Arawak Indians, but between the cruelty of Columbus and his Spanish friends and the horrors of slavery, the Arawak population became almost extinct.
Before Columbus the Arawaks called Jamaica, “Xaymaca”.
During the British occupation, unrest was the name of the game and following a series of rebellions the British government formally abolished slavery in 1833.
An attempt was made at a unification of the West Indies that saw Jamaica join the Federation of the West Indies in 1958. That didn’t last very long as Jamaica was granted full independence in 1962.
Through music the Jamaican culture has left an indelible impression on the world market. Today the distinct sound of Reggae/Dancehall music can be heard at all corners of the world. Thanks to artists like Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Prince Buster, Toots and the Maytals, Dennis Brown and many, many others, what started as Ska, then the slower Rock Steady beat finally evolved into Reggae/Dancehall as we know it today.
Sports, foremost track and field, football and netball to a lesser extent have further served to validate the Jamaica way. They became the first English speaking Caribbean island to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals in 1998 where the name “Reggae Boyz” became synonymous with Jamaica.
In track and field they have produced perennial champions at IAAF World Championships and in the Olympic games. Perhaps because of circumstances beyond their control the exploits of athletes like Ben Johnson, Donovan Bailey and Linford Christie made other countries proud but today there is no question who Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell Brown represent.

Team Jamaica Manager Norbert Radjpaul, is busy putting the final touches to his roster. He alluded to the fact that his present system is unfailable and will not make any new changes in preparation for this year’s tournament.
Team Jamaica, will be at full strength. “There are quite a few core players that will join us and the extra week will give the overseas players time to register” said the manager. (2011)
