Grenada

Team Grenada USA did not participate in the 2015 New York Caribbean Cup Soccer Tournament, however, perennially they have been a major force in the tournament. In the 24 year history of the tournament they have won the championship three times & shared it with Team Jamaica USA in 2011 when Hurricane Sandy interrupted the tournament.

In this the 25th anniversary of the tournament Team Grenada USA is hoping to win another tournament in the landmark year.

Alittle about our Country:

Known as the “spice island” the world over for its production of nutmeg and mace, it is only 133 square miles with a population of approximately 110,000 people. It is the largest island of the Grenadines. Nutmeg was introduced to the island in 1843 when a merchant ship on its way to England from the East Indies left some trees there.

Grenada came under French influence in 1649 but ceded to Britain in 1763.

In the mid-1970s to early 1980s Grenada endured political unrest that saw the government change hands a few times consequently after 1976 a democratically held election did not take place again until 1984.

While cricket is the national and perhaps most popular sport, and while they have produced pretty competitive football teams at the Caribbean Football Union level, young Kirani James is perhaps their most outstanding sports person to date and brought them international attention having won gold medals at the 2011 Daegu IAAF World Championships and the 2012 London Olympic games in the 400 metres.
