While Team Antigua and Barbuda has shown glimpses of playing well over the years their overall performances in the New York Caribbean Cup Soccer Tournament has been at best disappointing. They will be under new management in 2016 and promise to be the surprise team of the tournament.

Alittle about the country:

Antigua and Barbuda is a twin island lying between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The population is a little more than 91,000, with about forty percent of the population residing in the capital city of St. Johns. The larger of the two islands, Antigua, is also known as Wadadli that came from the original Amerindian inhabitants.

With the arrival of Sir Christopher Codrington in 1632 Antigua became a hub for sugarcane production. While Antigua and Barbuda is heavily populated by people of African descent today, historically the earliest inhabitants were of Arawak decent, later displaced by the Caribs, an aggressive people who ranged all over the Caribbean.

Today tourism is a major part of the economy that is said to have 365 beaches, one for each day of the year. If you like scuba diving and snorkeling then you will be right at home in Antigua and Barbuda.

The twin island state gained its independence from Britain in 1981.

The highest point on Antigua is Mount Obama rising 1,319 feet.

While soccer is very popular on the island, cricket has gained the island more notoriety through their great sons Sir Vivian Alexander Richards, who captained the West Indies cricket team and Sir Curtley Ambrose. Sir Viv is the only West Indies cricket captain to have never lost a test series.
